Women's soccer takes down UT-Martin to kick off preseason

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team started off the preseason strong as they defeated UT-Martin 3-2 on a scorching Tuesday night at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

Lipscomb scored twice in the first 10 minutes to take a commanding lead early on.

Junior Olivia Doak struck first for the Lady Bisons in the ninth minute, scoring on a breakaway thanks to an assist from sophomore Riley Henry.

Before Lipscomb could finish celebrating, sophomore Allie Dunn scored in the 10th minute after deflecting a pass from the UT-Martin goalkeeper. Dunn was making her debut in the Purple and Gold.

The Skyhawks earned their first goal as Skylar Boes rocketed a shot into the top of the net after a UT-Martin corner kick.

The Lady Bisons scored their third and final goal with 10 minutes remaining as Henry scored in the box off of an assist from Dunn.

UT-Martin added a second goal in waning moments as Katelyn Colvin ricocheted in a score off of a corner kick.

Senior Kate Mason patrolled the net for Lipscomb in the first half, posting a shutout and notching three saves.

Redshirt-sophomore Melissa Gray was the keeper in the second period, allowing two goals and notching one save.

Several Lady Bisons made their Purple and Gold debut including: Dunn, freshmen Kristi Jones, Logan McFadden, and Emily Patti.

Senior Justis Bailey was the only Lady Bison who played the full 90 minutes.

Lipscomb will return to action on Friday at Arkansas State with a 2 p.m. kickoff.

The regular season will begin on Aug. 17. at Belmont. The Battle of the Boulevard match is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
