FOLEY, Ala. - The Lipscomb women's soccer team started the preseason with a strong showing against South Alabama and came away with a 3-0 victory at the Foley Sports Complex Sunday afternoon.
The scoarching heat couldn't slow down the Bisons attack as Lipscomb was able to grab an early lead with a goal from senior forward Olivia Doak in the 18th minute. Junior Allie Dunn set up Doak with an assist.
The scoring would stall until late in the game when the Purple and Gold added a pair of goals to secure the win. Freshmen Grace Oliver and Molly Grant each put one in the back of the net in their Lipscomb debuts.
Oliver's goal came in the 80th minute, while Grant's came shortly after in the 83rd minute.
Quotes from Head Coach Kevin O'Brein:
"I was really happy with the teams performances today. We looked fit and sharp and created many good scoring chances against a very talented team.
"Overall, it was a great team result today. Every healthy player played and provided a strong contribution to the final result. The competition within the squad is at an all time high.
"One of the greatest challenges for us was dealing with the extreme heat with the temperature feeling like 105 degrees during the match. I thought we managed it well and let the ball work to our advantage.
"Having two newcomers score today is a wonderful boost to an already confident core of attacking players."
Next up for the Bisons will be the preseason finale at Middle Tennessee State on August 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The regular season will begin with a home match versus Northern Kentucky on Aug. 22 at 6 p.m.
