CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team fell to Chattanooga 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the UTC Sports Complex.
The Bisons and Mocs were deadlocked in a match that saw plenty of scoring opportunities for both clubs in the first half, but neither team could put the ball in the back of the net.
However, things turned when UTC finally broke the Lipscomb defense with a goal just before the halftime whistle in the 44th minute from Samantha Shaw.
Needing to make a comeback, the Purple and Gold continued to press on the offensive side of the ball in the second half, but never were able to put one past UTC goalkeeper Ashton Shields.
"Full credit to Chattanooga's players and coaches," head coach Kevin O'Brien said. "They were organized and played a very strong match. We'll learn lessons from this game and then work on improving as a team. I still have full confidence in our team and believe our best games are yet to come."
- The Bisons had 15 total shots and the Mocs tallied 14 shots, but Lipscomb had a 6-4 shots-on-goal advantage.
- Lipscomb earned five corner kicks to UTC’s four.
- Leah Cernicky and Olivia Doak led the Bisons with three shots each.
- Hailey Eck, Katia Hanger and Dominique Diller went the full 90 minutes.
Lipscomb will return to Nashville for the Music City Invite at Vanderbilt. The Bisons will take on Marshall on Sept. 6 at 4:30 and then will face Colgate on Sept. 8 at noon.
