ATLANTA, Ga. - Lipscomb women's soccer redshirt freshman Katia Hanger has been named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league offices on Monday.
This is the first weekly honor that Hanger has earned in her career and the first conference award a Lipscomb player has earned this year.
The defender earns the award after she scored the opening goal in Lipscomb's 3-1 victory over Colgate on Sunday and played a key role in bolstering the Bisons backline, which allowed only four shots on goal over two games at the Music City Invite.
Hanger's goal versus Colgate came in the 38th minute of the match after freshman Grace Oliver sent in a cross off a corner kick that originally landed at the feet of Danielle Van Liere who ripped a shot that was blocked. The deflection went directly to Hanger and after settling it she sent a floater into the upper left corner of the net.
The goal was Hanger's first of the season and the first of her career.
Hanger and the rest of the women's soccer team will be back in action with two matches this week. The Bisons will first take on Cincinnati at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex at 6 p.m. on Thursday and then hit the road to face Tennessee Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.
