Women's soccer falls to USC-Upstate 2-1

The Lipscomb Lady Bisons evened their road trip this weekend at 1-1 as they fell 2-1 Sunday afternoon to USC-Upstate in an Atlantic Sun soccer game. Sophomore forward Kate Spellman tied the game for the Lady Bisons at 1-1 at 16:24 of the first half. Spellman, with an assist from sophomore forward Halie Proffitt, drew Upstate's goalekeeper out high and then scored with a corner kick.


Women's soccer defeats ETSU 1-0 in overtime

Midfielder Kate Spellman got the free kick and forward Brandi Besheres got the goal. With a 1:15 left to play Beshere's headed Spellman's shot into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Lipscomb Lady Bisons a 1-0 win over ETSU Friday afternoon in Johnson City. It was the first Atlantic Sun win of the season for the Lady Bisons and only their third in the history of program.



Lipscomb falls to Campbell in final minutes

For almost 80 minutes it looked like the Lipscomb Lady Bisons and Campbell were on their way to their second 0-0 tie in as many seasons. But at the 79:37 mark of the second half Campbell's Kaili Terry found the net scoring on a one-on-one play against Lipscomb goalkeeper Katie Shelton for a 1-0 win Thursday night in Atlantic Sun action at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.


Lady Bisons fall short in 3-2 overtime loss to Belmont

In a little more than one minute the Lady Bisons soccer team did something that had not happened in the previous two seasons against Belmont - they scored two goals. In the end, though, Belmont prevailed, winning 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

The Lipscomb Lady Bisons extended their unbeaten string to two games with a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon on the road at Jackson State in Jackson, Miss. In the first half sophomore forward Halie Proffitt scored at the 31-minute mark to give the Lady Bisons the early lead. Sophomore forward Kate Spellman scored at the 77-minute mark in the second half for the Lady Bisons.

The Lipscomb Lady Bisons soccer team spotted Arkansas-Pine Bluff a 2-0 lead on the road and then came back to tie the game for a 2-2 tie. The Lady Bisons are on the road Sunday at Jackson State in Jackson, Miss.

Sunday afternoon under a cloudy sky the Lady Bisons held Arkansas-Little Rock to one first half goal, but then allowed four in the second half in a 5-0 loss. Kate Spellman attempted four shots, with two shots on goal. Halie Proffitt also had two shots on goal.

It wasn't as pretty as Lipscomb coach Jon Ireland would have liked, but it's hard to say anything bad about the first victory of the season. Friday afternoon the Lady Bisons broke into the win column with a 1-0 shutout of Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark.

Memories of last season's meeting with Presbyterian College were anything but sweet for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons soccer team. While they were not able to avenge last year's 6-0 loss to Presbyterian with a victory Friday night, they did hold on for a 2-0 loss with a depleted roster playing on a soggy field at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

Shelton Named Preseason All-Conference Goal Keeper

Lipscomb senior goal keeper Katie Shelton claimed another honor Tuesday, when she was named to the 2008 Atlantic Sun Preseason All-Conference Team. Last season Shelton was the 2007 Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year and was ranked 5th in the nation for total saves. The Lady Bisons open their season on August 29 against IUPUI at home.


Shelton makes school history as A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year

Junior goalkeeper Katie Shelton, from Hendersonville, Tenn., became the first Lady Bisons soccer player to be named Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and is also the first to be named to the All A-Sun First Team. Shelton finished the regular season as the conference leader in both saves with 156 and saves per game with 8.21. She was fifth in the conference in shutouts with four, a career high.
