The Lady Bisons lost 3-1 in singles and lost their only doubles match in the first day of the Tennessee-Martin tennis tournament to open the fall portion of the season with a 4-1 loss.
The two teams will meet in a rematch Saturday afternoon.
Lipscomb’s Mackenzie Bishop, a freshman, was successful in her collegiate debut, beating Corinna Reischl 6-4, 7-6 Friday in Martin, Tenn.
“She played really tough in her first college match and pulled out a close match win,” said Lady Bisons coach Kristin Lusk.
Danielle Hansen pushed her match to three sets, winning 7-6 and then losing 6-4 and 7-6 to Alice Laing.
“Danielle had a long three-set match and unfortunately came up short in the end,” said Lusk. “She played really well and I hope she gets the chance to play Laing again in the future.
“Danielle showed a lot of maturity in her play, and she showed a lot of improvement in her game from her freshman year.”
Despite the loss, Lusk saw reasons to be optimistic about her team.
“We played a lot of good tennis,” said Lusk. “It was exciting to see the improvements we’ve made as a team in just one year.”
