Saturday, February 27, 2010The Lipscomb Lady Bisons faced No. 66-ranked Brown University Saturday morning at Vanderbilt’s Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center. Although they put up a tough fight, there was not much the Lady Bisons could do against this powerhouse, losing the match 6-1.
The Lady Bears were by far the toughest team Lipscomb has faced thus far this season.
The doubles point started off slow for Lipscomb.
Julianne McMeen and Carlina Jow had trouble getting in a rhythm at No. 3, losing to Sorokko and Ellis 0-8.
At No. 1, falling to Abonbakare and Schonfled 1-8, Elizabeth Keevil and Mackenzie Bishop played hard but came up short. With the loss, Brown cinched the doubles point.
Last off court, the No. 2 doubles team of Kara Jackson and Danielle Hansen had a tight battle lasting into the start of singles play. Unfortunately, the girls could not pull out the win. They lost to Stewart and Flanzer 4-8.
With several singles matches already in play, the Lady Bisons had no time to regroup for singles play, starting out 0-1 in the match.
No. 5 singles finished first with a win for Brown. Lipscomb’s Jow fell to Ellis 2-6, 0-6.
Moments later, McMeen came off court after losing at No.6 to Lee 0-6, 0-6.
Brown had accumulated a 3-0 on the Lady Bisons.
Bishop quickly followed, dropping the match to Hirzberg at No. 1, 1-6, 0-6. And with that, Brown clinched the match at 4-0.
At No. 2, Keevil fell to Krasowski 1-6, 0-6, bringing the match score to 0-5.
Displaying a strong game both mentally and physically, Hansen had an epic match at No. 3, gaining the Lady Bisons only win. She defeated Stewart 5-7, 6-3, (10-1) with a tie-breaker substituting for the third set.
Jackson lost at No.4 in a pro-set to Schonfeld 4-8.
There were still had several aspects of the match that were positives for the Lady Bisons.
“It is good experience to play a nationally ranked team,” coach Kristin Lusk said. “Danielle and Kara played great doubles, and Danielle was able to carry that over to singles and get that win which was huge. The game plan now ids to have good practices this week and get ready for conference.”
The Lady Bisons next match will be at home against Atlantic Sun foe Campbell on Friday March 5. The match is projected to be played on Lipscomb’s new home courts.
