Sunday, March 27, 2011The Lady Bisons dropped their second Atlantic Sun match of the weekend Saturday night when they fell 6-1 to Jacksonville at Whitworth Country Club.
“Our girls played good doubles,” women’s assistant coach Jamie Aid said. “We came out of the gate strong; however, we did not close on some games late in the doubles match. Our girls were down about the doubles point, and, unfortunately, we played with a lot of emotion in singles, which led to some very fast first sets.
“Although JU is a good team, our biggest opponent was ourselves. We hope to learn from this match, move on and play solid tennis this coming week against USC Upstate and Campbell.”
The Lady Bisons came up just shy of the doubles point, posting two disappointing losses that fell by only a couple games.
At No. 1, senior Kara Jackson and freshman Alyssa Bellini lost to Castaingo and Bartos 8-3. Juniors Danielle Hansen and Elizabeth Keevil were just shy of a victory at No. 2 when they fell 9-7 to Nayayama and MeliBeu.
No. 3 doubles posed the most disappointing loss for the Lady Bisons as sophomore Carlina Jow and senior Julianne McMeen lost to Iwinski and Spencer in a tiebreaker, 9-8(9-7).
After losing the hard-fought doubles match, the Lady Bisons went into singles play with a 1-0 deficit and a great deal of frustration.
The disappointment of the doubles loss continued into the singes matches, causing the Lady Bisons to drop five of their six matches.
Their lone win came at No. 6, where Jow picked up a win on her 20th birthday. Jow handily defeated Spencer 6-2, 6-3 to record the only point of the day for Lipscomb.
Jackson fell at No. 1 to Castaingo 6-1, 6-1, while Keevil was defeated at No. 2 6-2, 6-1 by Bartos.
At No. 3, Bellini lost to Nayayama 6-0, 6-2, and Hansen fell at No. 4 to MeliBeu 6-2, 6-3. McMeen record the final los for the Lady Bisons at No. 5, falling to Iwinski 6-1, 6-2.
The Lady Bisons will next travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to face A-Sun opponent USC-Upstate on Friday, April 1 at 2 p.m.
