Lady Bisons compete in Austin Peay Invitational

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- The Lipscomb women’s tennis team returned to Nashville after posting three wins in the “Austin Peay Fall Tournament” over the weekend.

Each of the three Lady Bisons participating recorded first-round wins before going on to suffer a defeat in the second round.

Freshman Jenny Borck defeated Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville’s Kali Donner 6-3, 6-3 before falling to Lewis’s Zsofia Lanstiak 6-1, 6-3.

Senior Sam Bowman took down Belmont’s Natalie Nunes in round one 6-0, 7-6 (5).  Bowman was defeated in round two by Belmont’s Laura Stack 6-0, 6-0.

Freshman Deahna Welcher also defeated an Atlantic Sun opponent in the first round, taking down Kennesaw State’s Kelsey Kennedy 7-6 (5), 6-1 before going on to lose to KSU’s Tess Lagerkvist in a three setter, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8.

The Lady Bisons prepare to head to Memphis, Tenn., on Friday, Oct. 14 to compete in the “USTA/ITA Regional Indoor Championships,” where junior Alyssa Bellini will compete in the main draw in singles and doubles along with partner, Welcher, while Borck will compete in the qualifying rounds on Friday.
