NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Lipscomb women’s tennis team improved their record to 3-6 with a shutout win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
Head coach Andrew Harris said the win was exactly what the Lady Bison needed heading into conference play.
"Right answer at the right time,” Harris said. “This was a match that we were fortunate to put together at the last minute due to our cancellation of our Liberty match earlier this spring. I was happy for our ladies today to come out, execute, and to make shots. No matter the match, you must come out and execute your game plan.
“We have two weeks now until Belmont and will evaluate where we are and what we need to do to make sure they are prepared for the most important part of the year."
The Lady Bison took an early lead when they secured the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches, to go up 1-0.
Freshmen Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck teamed up at the No. 1 spot, where they took down Macey Hallstedt and Jamie Brown 8-1.
At No. 2, senior Elizabeth Keevil and sophomore Alyssa Bellini defeated Maddy Bogle and Tatum McMahon 8-1.
Seniors Danielle Hansen and Samantha Bowman picked up the Lady Bison’s third win at the No. 3 spot, defeating Kendall Ganus and Danielle Hadler 8-6.
With a 1-0 lead, the Lady Bison moved on to singles play, where they handily posted wins at all six seeds.
Welcher breezed through her match a No. 1, shutting down Bogle 6-0, 6-0, while Bellini took down McMahon at No. 2, winning 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 3, Borck defeated Jayden Morrison 6-4, 6-3, and Keevil won at No. 4, beating Ganus 6-1, 6-1.
Hansen picked up a win at No. 5, where she defeated Brown 6-1, 6-4, and Bowman beat Butcher at No. 6, winning 6-3, 6-0.
The Lady Bison will head into a two-week break as they train for the start of conference play.
The Lady Bison’s first Atlantic Sun match will be Saturday, March 17 at Belmont. Match play will begin at 10 a.m.
