Lady Bison blanked by Middle Tennessee

Wednesday, April 04, 2012

MUFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s tennis team lost to Middle Tennessee in a 7-0 shutout in Murfreesboro on Tuesday night.

"We played well at No. 1 doubles today but had a difficult time executing in the other matches,” head coach Andrew Harris said. “Coming out strong in singles would be critical to our success and to their credit, they jumped on us early. Jenny Borck did a great job sticking with her game plan as I know she was frustrated from this past weekend. She showed heart today in pushing Flavia to the limit. We will get on the plane Thursday and get ready for Jacksonville and UNF."

The Lady Bison lost all three doubles matches, giving MTSU an early 1-0 lead.

Freshmen duo, Jenny Borck and Deahna Welcher, had a strong showing but came up just short of victory, losing to Lexi Brand and Nayava Moraes 8-6.

Seniors Elizabeth Keevil and Danielle Hansen fell at No. 2 doubles to Yuri Nomoto and Marietta Bigus 8-0. At No. 3, sophomore Alyssa Bellini and senior Samantha Bowman were defeated 8-3 by Flavia Nagayama and Alex Dachos.

Down 1-0, the Lady Bison entered into singles play, but were unable to pull out a win against MTSU’s tough play.

Bellini fell at the No. 1 spot to Nomoto, losing 6-1, 6-3, while Welcher posted a solid effort at No. 2, falling to Brand 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 3, Borck had a strong showing, posting a three-setter, but she unfortunately came up short, losing to Nagayama 3-6, 6-2, (11-9).

Keevil lost at No. 4 to Moraes 6-2, 6-0, and Hansen fell at No. 5 to Bigus 6-1, 6-3 while Bowman lost at No. 6 to Taylor Coffey 6-1, 6-0.

The Lady Bison return to action for two A-Sun matches this weekend. The women will face Jacksonville on Friday and North Florida on Saturday.
