Women's Tennis competes in Lipscomb/Belmont Invitational

NASHVILLE, TENN. - The Lipscomb women’s tennis team completed its second tournament of the school year this past weekend, taking on various teams from across the Southeast in the Lipscomb/Belmont Invitational that was held at the Centennial Sportsplex.

Lipscomb, Belmont, Austin Peay, Western Kentucky and UT-Martin all competed in the weekend competition that provided wins for all Lipscomb participants.

Coach Andrew Harris expressed his enthusiasm with the tournament’s turnout.

“The tournament was great considering the amount of matches the ladies were able to get in,” Harris said. “Both on Friday and Saturday I was concerned about how they would hold up physically, but they all seemed to bounce back from each match.”

The tournament was held in a compass draw format, putting the players in different flights of competition.

Harris is hopeful  the tournament will offer continued success for the fall.

“All in all, we need to do a better job of preparing ourselves mentally in terms of staying focused through an entire match,” Harris said. “But that is why you have the fall is so you can address various items that come up and then help correct them and make sure you improve on them week to week.”

The team will next venture to Chattanooga to play in the UTC Steve Baras Classic on Sept. 28 through Sept. 30.
