NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons tennis team started the spring season off right with an exciting, competitive match win over Tennessee-Martin.
The Lady Bisons lost the doubles point, but won four singles matches for the 4-3 win Friday night at the Whitworth indoor tennis facility in front of a record crowd.
“We saw in the team tonight what we have been trying to define through the fall, and that is simply the mentality to `finish’,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid said. “We tell our girls to `finish’ every day in practice or in the classroom. Whatever it might be, that is our outlook.”
Winning matches for the Lady Bisons were Melissa Kromer (No. 2), Laura Kent (No. 3), Jenny Borck (No. 4) and Lorena Djuknic (No. 5).
“The team came out and lost the doubles point,” Aid said. “But they were able to reset and move on to singles producing wins at numbers 2-through-5 to clinch the match.
“We kept with the process, aimed to improve, and controlled our preparation. As we have said before, our goal is to remain focused and to continue to raise the level.”
Aid has praised the willingness of this team to work hard during the fall and offseason. She was happy to see those efforts quickly pay off.
“That focus starts in the weight room and on the practice courts,” Aid said. “This group puts in a lot of work. We, as a coaching staff, are big believers that success comes to those who work and we do.”
The Lady Bisons are back in action Saturday night at Whitworth against rival Belmont. The match begins at 6.
“We are proud of this team starting off the season with a win,” Aid said. “We are now focused on Belmont and the process starts over again.”
