NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons tennis team downed Tennessee State 6-0 on Friday at the TSU courts.
The Lady Bisons advanced to 9-6 with the win.
“After the conference series last weekend we have taken this week to work on some technical items for practice,” said Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid. “TSU was a great match close to home to put into practice what we have been working on this week.
“Our girls showed good maturity by really understanding the importance of learning from a non-conference match.
There were no doubles matches played.
The Lady Bisons won all six singles matches in straight sets.
“The win over TSU continues to show how this team is writing our own story,” Aid said. “This win today makes this team surpass the winning record in program history in the NCAA Division I era by two wins.”
Junior Jenny Borck stressed it was a good day to focus on individual techniques.
“It was a good day for everyone to focus and play their game,” Borck said. “It was great to see everyone do so and makes me confident, going into these last conference matches.”
Lipscomb junior Deahna Welcher at No.1 defeated Victoria Haynes 6-1, 6-1. Welcher’s aggressive shots did not let Haynes last too long on the court.
“The team showed a lot of focus and our ability to adjust to several format changes was very pleasing,” said Welcher. “I am proud of how well the girls got the job done.”
Melissa Kromer at No.2, Laura Kent at No. 3, and Lorena Djuknic at No. 5 won their respective matches with ease.
“We are looking forward to having productive practices this weekend and prepare ourselves for No. 71 Samford Wednesday in Birmingham,” Aid said. “We have one more non-conference match before we play four important conference matches. We will be working hard staying true to our process we set in August.”
