NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Laura Kent arrived on campus in January of this year and has made an immediate impact on the Lipscomb Lady Bisons tennis team.
The freshman from Kangaroo Valley, Australia was named Wednesday to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team. She was a unanimous selection of the conference coaches.
It is the first time a Lady Bisons tennis player has been named to the conference’s All-Freshman Team since 2005.
“Laura has done really well for us at the No. 3 spot,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid said. “She is tall. You have to have a girl who is physical at the higher spots.
“She has a big game. She can make shots from the base line. She can come to the net if she wants. She has confidence in her serve.”
Kent has led the Lady Bisons this season with an 11-7 overall record, 3-3 in the conference.
“Laura is a very calm player,” Aid said. “That works to her advantage. She is a very nice competitor. You can look at Laura, and for the most part, you can’t tell if she us up or down.
“She is very consistent in her mannerisms on the court. That is a little unique for a freshman playing at this level. She has a very good match presence about her.”
Aid is looking forward to working with Kent in the offseason and in the fall.
“It is great how quickly she has bought into a new system and is on board,” Aid said. “It will be interesting to see what she does next year.”
