Women's tennis beats Evansville on the road

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb women’s tennis team picked up a big 5-2 road win against Evansville, snapping a two-match losing streak.

After dropping the doubles point in their conference opener against North Florida  on Thursday, the Lady Bison’s swept the doubles matches to pick up the point.

In the top seeded match, Melissa Kromer and Laura Kent teamed up to defeat Natasha James and Marketa Trousilova 8-6.

Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck were together in the second spot to take on Morina Moreno and Kennedy Craig and pulled out an 8-5 victory.

In the three spot, Danielle Kinnen and Hannah Gamage teamed up to defeat Gaby Fifer and Mina Milovic 8-5.

Lipscomb (8-7) rode their momentum into singles play, starting with Welcher in the second seed. Welcher battled James in a close match before pulling out a 6-3, 7-6(11-9) victory.

Kent played Moreno at the three spot, winning it 6-0, 6-3.

Borck sealed the Lady Bison victory with her fifth seed victory over Milovic, winning it 6-3, 6-0.

As the six seed  Kinnen defeated Fifer 6-0, 6-2.

Head coach Jamie Aid is always glad to get her team more match experience, especially heading into big conferences matches. Aid scheduled this trip to prepare them for their upcoming trip to Florida to take on Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.

“We wanted to treat this like a conference match as far as the energy and  atmosphere,” Aid said. “It’s an easy road trip prior to Florida. We wanted to treat it like a conference match.”

The Lady Bisons are back in action on Tuesday as they take on rival Belmont at  Centennial Sportsplex with play set to begin at 2 p.m.

“Belmont is always a big rivalry match,” Aid said. “So we’re looking to bring a lot of energy before the conference matches.”
