Women's tennis looking for A-Sun berth at Kennesaw

MARIETTA, Ga. – They don’t talk about it. But they know what is at stake.

Saturday morning at 9 the Lipscomb Lady Bisons are set to play Kennesaw State at Fair Oaks.

A victory for the Lady Bisons would qualify the Lady Bisons for the Atlantic Sun Tournament. It would be their second trip in a row which would be a program first.

“Our approach is nothing different than any other match we have played all year,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid said. “There is no need for any pressure about the match.

“We are sticking to our process and sticking to our game plan. We are thinking about the current point and what we need to do.”

The Lady Bisons are carrying some late season momentum into the Kennesaw State match. They are coming off a 6-1 A-Sun win over USC Upstate. They have also won three of the four doubles points in conference play.

“They don’t seem to be aware of what this match could mean,” Aid said. “Our job is the match we are playing that day and work hard and try our best.

“If we play our tennis we should have positive day. If we play emotional tennis it won’t be a good day. We can’t be rushing points and being mad about this ball or that shot.”

Aid is anticipating the match will be played under windy conditions which puts even more of a premium on her players being on a calm emotional level.

“We have prepared the girls for the wind,” Aid said. “It could be a day that could frustrate some players. We want our girls to be consistent. We don’t expect to win but we expect to work hard.”

The match means something for each team.

“Our depth on paper is more dangerous than Kennesaw State’s depth, but they are also playing for something,” Aid said. “We have known all year that the doubles point is important for us and that is one way we have been trying to capitalize on our depth.

“Kennesaw State is playing to stay alive in trying to earn a tournament berth. If we beat them that puts them out of the conference tournament. It is always interesting to see how teams respond when there is something major on the line. Kennesaw has more pressure on them than we have on us.”

The Lady Bisons are 10-9 overall, 1-3 in conference play. Kennesaw State is 1-12 overall, 0-4 in the A-Sun.
