Kent leads women's tennis all-conference honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons tennis team earned four postseason awards from the Atlantic Sun Conference, a new all-time record for the program.

Sophomore Laura Kent was named First Team All-Conference.

Seniors Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck were named Second Team All-Conference.

“Our coaching staff is very proud of our seniors,” Lady Bisons coacj Jamie Aid said. “For Jenny and Deahna to be named to the Second Team All-Conference is a reflection of their work they have put in this year.”

Hannah Gamage was named to the All-Freshman Team.

Kent was named to the All-Freshman Team last season.

“This is the second year in a row that we have had a freshman be elected to the conference freshman team,” Aid said. “This shows the growth of our recruiting classes as we move the program forward.

“Hannah has done a great job stepping up and playing No. 1 in our lineup. She showed growth each match this season and continues to progress into the top half of the lineup.”

Kent finished the year strong for Lipscomb, going 4-1 in A-Sun singles matches. After the 2015 regular season, Kent posted a mark of 14-4, 14-2 at No. 3 singles. Kent was also a force in doubles play. Joined by Melissa Kromer, the duo registered a 10-6 record at No. 1 doubles.

”Laura has a 13-1 record at her spot this season,”  Aid said. “To see Laura's progression from last year to this year has been exciting for our program. Laura is the first player in our program to receive the honor of First Team All-Conference.”
Kromer was named to the A-Sun Academic All-Conference Team earlier this week.

“Having four players be selected to all conference teams is a great sign that our program is growing,” Aid said. “Our girls and staff have worked very hard this year to place ourselves in a competitive position.”

The Lady Bisons (12-9, 3-3) will start this year’s tournament run on Friday morning as they hit the court against fifth seeded Northern Kentucky (6-14, 1-5) at 10:30 in Jacksonville.

The Lady Bisons defeated Northern Kentucky last weekend to cap off their run of three consecutive 6-1 wins over conference opponents.
