NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons tennis team had its share of program firsts this past season.
They made their first trip to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships. They won 10 games, a program high for a season. They also finished 7-0 in indoor matches at home this spring, also a first.
Surpassing those numbers in 2015 will be a challenge based on the fall and spring schedules for 2014-2015 announced by coach Jamie Aid.
“This will be the toughest schedule our program has ever had,” Aid said. “With that said I am very confident in this group. The schedule reflects a program that is growing.”
In the fall the Lady Bisons will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 for the University of Alabama Tournament. In the spring they will go on the road twice to face two other Southeastern Conference teams Jan. 29 at Mississippi State and Feb. 20 at the University of Mississippi.
The first official day of practice is Aug. 25. The first fall challenge for the team is the University of the South Tournament at Sewanee, Tennessee on Sept. 13. On Oct. 16-18 they will play in the ITAs at Knoxville, Tennessee.
In the spring the Lady Bisons will travel to Murray State Jan. 31. They play Murray at 10 a.m. and Alabama State at 2 p.m.
They travel to Memphis Feb. 8 and then head to Clarksville Feb. 13 to face Austin Peay.
The Lady Bisons head to Centennial Sportsplex March 10 to play Belmont. The final non-conference road match is March 21 at Evansville.
Home non-conference matches feature Tennessee-Martin Feb. 6, Chattanooga Feb. 15, Columbus State Feb. 21st and Arkansas State Feb. 27 all at the Whitworth Indoor facility.
In March the Lady Bisons will host Morehead March 6 and Western Kentucky March 16, both at Lipscomb’s Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center. The final non-conference home match is April 7 against Southeastern Louisiana.
The Lady Bisons will open the A-Sun portion of the schedule at home March 19th against the University of North Florida.
The next two A-Sun matches are on the road at Florida Gulf Coast March 26 and Stetson March 28.
They return home to face USC Upstate April 2 and then are back on the road March 4 to play Kennesaw State. The Lady Bisons close out the regular season with an A-Sun match at home April 11 against Northern Kentucky.
“This season will be another season that we will have a team with the ability to write more program firsts,” Aid said. “Our theme verse we adopted last year as a program was Corinthians 1: 9:24 which says `Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain the prize’.
“This verse sums up our mentality as coaches as well as our players. We have a lot of matches… a long season. We will work hard every day so we can accomplish success. I couldn't be more pleased with this roster as well as this schedule. We are ready to work and write another story for Lipscomb tennis to be proud of.”
