Women's tennis set to open home slate Friday with UT-Martin

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb women’s tennis team plays its first home match of the season Friday night hosting UT-Martin at Whitworth Country Club. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m.

The Lady Bisons are undefeated at 7-0 when playing at Whitworth, dating back to last season.  Head coach Jamie Aid is hopeful that that record will improve on Friday.

“They’ll give us a good match on Friday night,” Aid said. “They’re a strong team. It will be interesting to see how we play them at home.”

The Lady Bisons will turn around and travel to Memphis for a match against the 58th-ranked Tigers of Memphis. Play on Sunday night is scheduled to also begin at 6.

“This is a team that I want us to be well prepared to compete with,” Aid said. “We want to start moving in that direction.”

Lipscomb’s schedule sets up for a match against ranked opponents following non-ranked opponents every weekend during the non-conference schedule. This scheduling is another step forward in the process to achieving their goals.

“This schedule reflects a team that deserves a tougher schedule,” Aid said. “I think it reflects a team that is building more.”

Last season’s campaign was full of program firsts, including a program record for wins. Aid wants to continue in the process. That improvement can only come from challenging themselves and Aid is confident her team is up for that challenge.

The Lady Bisons are set up for a tough February, but it will be a month where they can continue to improve with each match.

“We are looking forward to the challenge,” Aid said. “We are improving each and every week. We are staying true to this process and true to this mentality.”

Even with the tough month ahead, the Lady Bisons are focused on the next step of the process and that is UT-Martin on Friday night and continuing their home win streak.

“We’ll be very process oriented,” Aid said. “Right now, we’re focused on Friday night.”
