Aid happy with start for women's tennis

OXFORD, Ohio – They didn’t win every match, but Lipscomb women’s tennis coach Jamie Aid was very happy with the way her team played Saturday and Sunday at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational.

“Our goal in playing dual invites this fall at Miami, Samford and hosting one is to better prepare us for spring dual matches,” Aid said.

Sunday the Lady Bisons beat Butler 4-2 in singles matches with Laura Kent, Thabile Tshatedi, Danielle Kinnen and Lorena Djuknic winning their matches. It was the first collegiate singles win for Tshatedi.

Lipscomb beat Butler 2-1 in doubles with the pairings of Djuknic and Kathryn Evans and Katerina Kandyba/Thabile Tshatedi each winning. It was the first collegiate doubles win for Kandyba and Tshatedi.

The Lady Bisons lost 6-0 in singles matches with host Miami (Ohio).

“Coming up to Miami we had some nagging injuries and had two girls who started last year unable to play,” Aid said. “This was a great opportunity for us to move the doubles pairings around and also see different players play different positions in the lineup.

“We were very successful throughout the tournament. This weekend showed us the depth that this team has and the flexibility we have with the line-up.”

While Aid liked much of what she saw in terms of match scores, she and the assistants on the coaching staff were more impressed with the grittiness the players displayed.

“As a staff we were most proud of the tenacity that our girls put forth,” Aid said. “This group fights and is willing to work hard. When you combine that tenacity with talent you are going to see good results.

“Our girls fought through rain delays Saturday, pulled muscles, and long matches this weekend. We took many notes and look forward to working on strategies this week as well as getting everyone healthy. We are very much process -minded with this group and they fully understand the standard that is set.”
