NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For the first time, the Lipscomb women’s tennis team will host a fall tournament this weekend as they welcome Belmont, Austin Peay and Western Kentucky in the Bison Invite.
The Lady Bisons will start the action at Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on the Lipscomb campus at noon on Friday as they play Belmont. They will also play at 4 Friday afternoon and 9 a.m. Saturday.
The tournament will be played in a dual format with teams playing three doubles matches and six singles matches against each team, much like what they will play in the spring season.
“Playing like we would in the spring gives us a better idea of where the girls are and what we need to work on,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid said.
Belmont went 6-15 last season including a 6-0 loss to the Lady Bisons. Western Kentucky finished 7-10 last season, including a 4-3 victory over Lipscomb. Austin Peay had a 3-17 worksheet a year ago with a 6-1 loss to the Lady Bisons.
Lipscomb played last weekend at Austin Peay in the Governor Invitational but only took four players to play.
Aid is excited to have most of her team healthy. This will be the first time this fall Melissa Kromer has been on the court.
“I’ve only seen them play a true match once this fall,” Aid said. “We only played four girls last weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing the freshmen a little more relaxed.”
