Women's tennis set for FGCU challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – “Breakfast at Wimbledon” has nothing on the Lipscomb women’s tennis program.

Thursday morning at 8:30 the Lady Bisons will face Florida Gulf Coast in the opening Atlantic Sun match of the season at Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center. The early starting time is an attempt to squeeze in the matches before predicted rain storms begin.

Lipscomb enters the match with a 10-3 record, the best preconference record in the NCAA era. FGCU is 6-7.

Melissa Kromer, named A-Sun Player of the Week this week, is 11-1 (3-0 at No. 4, 8-1 at No.5). Hanna Victorsson is 10-2 followed by Laura Kent at 8-2 and Dani Kinnen at 5-1.

Kent and Kromer are 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. Kate Kandyba and Victorsson are 5-1 in doubles matches.

The Lady Bisons are 0-9 overall against Florida Gulf Coast.

“We are excited to host the first conference match,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid said. “FGCU is a very good team and has a lot of depth as well. Our girls feel very prepared and look forward to competing Thursday.”
