SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Lipscomb’s Laura Kent added to her collection of Atlantic Sun honors with her addition to the conference all-tournament tennis team.
Kent, a junior from Kangaroo Valley, Australia, was named as a First Team All-Conference performer for the second year in a row prior to the start of the tournament.
“Laura has had a terrific season despite some injury adversity,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid said. “She is an incredible competitor who is so clever and tenacious on court.
“Our conference had some outstanding players this season. We are proud to have Laura Kent named in such an impressive group for the tournament.”
Against Kennesaw State Kent won a tie-break 7-5 against Cristina Martin at No. 3. She won the second set 6-4 for the match win.
At No. 2 doubles Kent teamed with freshman Thabile Tshatedi to defeat Laura Hopton and Ashleigh De Wet of Kennesaw State 6-1.
In a semifinal match with top-seeded UNF she was tied in set wins with Rafaela Gomez at No.3, but because the match was decided before their match was finished they ended in a tie.
Kent and Tshatedi were beaten 6-4 at No. 2 doubles by the UNF team of Luise Intert and Gomez (UNF).
For the second year in a row the Lady Bisons, the No. 4 seed, advanced to the semifinals of the tournament. After beating Kennesaw State 4-2 in the quarterfinals the Lady Bisons fell 4-0 to No. 1 seed and eventual tournament champion UNF.
The Lady Bisons finished the season with a 14-8 record. The 14 victories are a program record in the NCAA era.
“We ended our season breaking program records,” Aid said. “We came home very proud to have the most wins in program history.”
