PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Vika Dzyuba was planning to head West, but she found out this week her teammate Denise Buberl would also be making the trip.
The duo is in Pacific Palisades, California for the Riviera Women’s All-American Tennis Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club. The event is being hosted by Pepperdine University.
Dzyuba, playing in the singles qualifying round, becomes the first Lipscomb player selected to the Oracle ITA Division I Women’s National Singles Rankings list.
Buberl and Dzyuba will play in the pre-qualifying round in doubles. They are the first two Lipscomb players to participate in the event.
Dzyuba is ranked 95th among collegiate players. The International Tennis Association announced the rankings earlier this month.
A transfer this season from Pacific, Dzyuba also becomes the first Lipscomb tennis player to be named to the rankings list. Buberl is from Vienna, Austria.
“I am excited to have Lipscomb tennis be represented in both singles and doubles at All-Americans,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid, who is accompanying her players on the trip, said. “Our program has continued to grow season after season.
“I am very pleased to have our program on a national platform. Vika is a sophomore and Denise is only a freshman. This team is very young, however the players are very willing to work.”
Lipscomb, Pepperdine and Long Beach State are the only three mid-major schools represented.
“We are looking forward to playing some of the best competition in the country,” Aid said. “Vika and Denise are both so fun to watch because of the passion and fun these girls bring to the court.”
