Women's tennis ending fall season at ITAs

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Several members of the Lipscomb women’s tennis team will be participating in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional.

The tournament starts Thursday at the Adams Tennis Center on the Middle Tennessee campus.

“This is our last fall tournament,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid said. “I feel like our girls have made it a fantastic fall.

“I am very encouraged with how everyone has competed in practice. I am looking forward to a good tournament at the ITAs.”

In addition to Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee, teams scheduled to compete are from Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Indiana, Tennessee State, Belmont, SEMO. UT-Martin, Chattanooga and Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Xavier, Austin Peay, Butler, Murray State, Northern Kentucky and Wright State.

Three Lady Bisons are in the singles competition. Denise Buberl is playing in the main draw. Jaclyn Findlay is scheduled to play in the B draw. Thabile Tshatedi is participating in the qualifying draw.

In doubles Tshatedi will team with Buberl. Tshatedi is taking the place of Vika Dzyuba who has teamed with Buberl most of the fall, but is sidelined with an injury.

Injuries have kept several players out of competition this fall, but Aid is not letting that dampen her enthusiasm for what she has seen from the healthy players.

“It has obviously been a difficult fall with injuries for our girls,” Aid said. “With the tournament in Murfreesboro we are so happy because all of our girls can be together supporting teammates.”

The tournament will continue through Monday. Admission is free each day. Information is available on Middle Tennessee’s Tournament Central site.
