Women's tennis signs Ukrainian player

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s tennis team continues with an international influence with the signing of Kate Popova for fall of 2017.

Popova is from Bucha, Ukraine. She is the daughter of Osksana and Sergei Popova. Her plans are to pursue a degree in business at Lipscomb.

“Kate fits our program perfectly with her drive to be the best student and tennis player she can be,” Lipscomb women’s tennis coach Jamie Aid said. “How she expressed her work ethic the first time I spoke to her was very mature from a 17-year-old. That work ethic is what we are looking for as we continue to move our program onto the national platform.”

Popova is ranked 326th  by the International Tennis Federation.

“Kate's international ranking marks her as the highest-ranked incoming freshman in program history,” Aid said. “We expect Kate to have an immediate impact in our lineup as a freshman.

“Kate has the ability to be an elite college tennis player at the highest level of D-I tennis. We are happy to welcome her into our Bison Family.”

Popova was attracted to Lipscomb for several reasons.

"I chose Lipscomb because it seems like the best option to get a good education while playing tennis,” Popova said. “I will be competing with other good players and I will be able to have fun while doing it.”
