LAKEPOINT, Ga. - Lipscomb freshman Denise Buberl garnered ASUN Women's Tennis Player of the Week Honor after going 2-0 in singles action against in-state rivals Belmont and Memphis, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Lipscomb began a busy weekend of action on a strong note, claiming its first win of the season against cross-town foes Belmont. The Lady Bisons took home a 4-3 victory in the “Battle of the Boulevard” on Friday night. Lipscomb saw limited success in the doubles round, falling at the No. 2 and No. 3 position to give up the point advantage to Belmont. The Lady Bisons made a triumphant comeback, rallying in singles action to earn the win. Buberl notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Kendall Warren.
The Lady Bisons fell to Memphis, 6-1, with the only win of the match coming from the Austrian freshman. Buberl fought in a tie-break to eventually defeat Marta Morga in the first set 7-5. She closed out the match with a 6-4 to earn back-to-back wins.
Lipscomb now sits at 1-3 overall and will hit the court again on Saturday Feb. 4 against Chattanooga at 7 PM CT.
