Tough SEC weekend ahead for women's tennis

OXFORD, Miss. – it’s an SEC kind of weekend for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons tennis team.

Friday at 2 p.m. they will face the Ole Miss Rebels. Sunday Lipscomb travels to Knoxville to play the University of Tennessee at 2 p.m.

“We are excited for the opportunity to compete against a pair of SEC schools this weekend,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid said. “Ole Miss and UT will provide us with great competition and help prepare us well for our upcoming conference season.”

Ole Miss will be making its first appearance at home this season after posting a 7-2 record away from Oxford.

The Rebels are ranked No. 15 in the country in the USTA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Junior All-American Arianne No. 58 in singles in the ITA rankings. She and Anna Vrbenska are No. 33 in the doubles in the USTA.

The Lady Bisons are 1-5 with a win over Belmont. Vika Dzyuba is the leader on the team and is ranked No. 53 nationally in the ITA.

Lipscomb lost 7-0 to Ole Miss in 2014, the last time the two schools met.

Tennessee will open Sunday facing Belmont in the morning followed by Lipscomb in the afternoon.

Tennessee has played eight matches at home with an 8-0 in Knoxville. They have one road loss and a win on the neutral court for a 9-1 record.

“Vika has comparable ratings with the No. 1 players for Ole Miss and Tennessee,” Aid said. “This weekend is a wonderful opportunity for her as well.”
