Outdoor weather agrees with women's tennis

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Playing outside had a positive effect on the Lipscomb women’s tennis team.

Friday afternoon, in the first outdoor match of the season at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on campus, the Lady Bisons beat Arkansas State 4-1.

The match was played in the clinch format because the teams were able to use six courts for the match.

The double’s teams started the match on a successful note for the Lady Bisons. Vika Dzyuba and Denise Buberl met Julie Gauguery and Shannon O’Brien on the first doubles court. Dzyuba and Buberl won the match 6-4.

Thabile Tshatedi and Jaclyn Findlay faced off with Tori Roberts and Allison Quammen. Tshatedi and Findlay had no trouble winning their match 6-2.

Madeleine Brooks and Hannah Gamage were taking on Victoria Pisani and Sabina Jeresic before the match was called because of the clinch format. The teams were tied 4-4.

The Lady Bisons were just as successful in their singles matches, taking three of the four matches that were counted.

Dzyuba defeated her opponent, Gauguery, in straight sets. Dzyuba shut Gauguery out in the first set winning 6-0. Gauguery fought back in the second set, but her campaign was not enough to win the match. Dzyuba won 6-4.

Jeresic overtook Lipscomb’s Brooks in their singles match 6-1, 6-3.

Gamage and O’Brien met on the third singles court. Gamage was ultimately too much for O’Brien to handle winning the match 6-3, 6-4.

Buberl won the final match for the Lady Bisons defeating Pisani in a dominating fashion 6-2, 6-1.

Tshatedi and Findlay did not get to finish their singles matches against Roberts and Quammen. Tshatedi was losing her match against Roberts in the second set before the match was clinched. Findlay was making a comeback in the third set of her match against Quammen when the match was called.

Lipscomb is 3-8. Arkansas State falls to 1-8.

The Lady Bisons have the rest of the weekend to rest before their next match against Southeast Missouri State next Friday afternoon.
