Women's tennis facing FGCU on the road

FORT MYERS, Fla.-The Lipscomb Lady Bisons will be traveling to Fort Myers, Florida this weekend to take on Florida Gulf Coast.

FGCU will be the only match for Lipscomb this week. Coach Jamie Aid is happy that her team will have more than 24 hours to recover for their next match.

FGCU will be hosting the ASUN Conference Tournament this year, so the Lady Bisons will be getting some experience on the courts before the post season tournament begins.

The Eagles are one of the top teams in the ASUN Conference at 3-0 and 11-4 overall for the season.

“Our team has never played as well as they did against North Florida, so we expect to battle again this weekend against FGCU,” Aid said.

Lipscomb will be traveling with five players, but the team is expecting to have a full roster by the ASUN Conference Tournament. Since the team is short a player, the team is short a doubles team and a singles point.

Vika Dzyuba and Denise Buberl are undefeated in conference play for doubles matches, but Thabile Tshatedi and Hannah Gamage are a new pairing. The duo is still finding its stride. Both lines need to be successful to gain the doubles point.

FGCU has not been as successful in their doubles matches, so Aid is confident in her doubles lines in being competitive with the Eagles.

The match begins at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Florida Gulf Coast University Tennis Center.

“We don’t have a lot to lose against FGCU, so we are giving it our all,” said Aid. “This match will be a fun environment for the team to play in, so I expect a very competitive match overall.”
