Lady Bisons earn No. 5 seed in ASUN Tennis Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -  A regular season that has often tested the perseverance of the Lipscomb Lady Bisons tennis team ended on a positive note.

Saturday evening at Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center the Lady Bisons defeated Kennesaw State 4-3 in an ASUN Conference match.

“Being resilient as a group has been a theme this week,” Lipscomb coach Jamie Aid said.

The undefeated team of Vika Dzyuba and Denise Buberl beat Kennesaw State’s Alexandra Mercado and Elle Baker, 6-2.

Hannah Gamage and Thabile Tshatedi defeated Cristina Perez-Martin and Laura Hopton, 6-3 at the second line.

The Lady Bisons lost one doubles match and one of the singles matches due to the five-player roster. Those matches did not come into play against the Owls.

The singles matches were successful for Lipscomb. Dzyuba shut Mercado 6-0, 6-0.

Gamage lost a three-set match to Perez-Martin by scores of 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.

Buberl had no problem defeating her opponent Hopton 6-2, 6-0.

Tshatedi defeated Kennedy Craig in exciting fashion. The match went to three sets with a final score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

Kennesaw State’s Jessica Cantrell defeated Lipscomb’s Jaclyn Findlay 6-4, 6-1.

“This is a special group of high character girls,” Aid said.

Lipscomb will now head to Fort Myers, Florida to compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament on Friday April 21.

The Lady Bisons, 6-16, 2-4 in the ASUN, will be the No. 5 seed. Kennesaw State, 5-14, 1-5, is the No. 6 seed.
