Buberl, Dzyuba Lead Women's Tennis To ITA Academic Honor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Proving once again Lipscomb’s commitment to academics, the Bisons women’s tennis team was honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team.

The Bisons posted an impressive 3.35 cumulative grade-point average in 2016-17, on their way to earning the ITA laurel for the third year in a row.

In addition to the team award, Denise Buberl and Viktoriya Dzyuba were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, which requires a minimum of a 3.50 GPA.

“I am proud of our program moving forward both on and off the court,” Lipscomb women’s tennis coach Jamie Aid said. “To have the demanding schedule these girls have and to maintain a team GPA over a 3.2 is a great accomplishment that illustrates their commitment to being a student-athlete.”

Joining Lipscomb from the ASUN Conference on the women’s side were Florida Gulf Coast, Kennesaw State, Stetson and NJIT.

To qualify as an ITA All-Academic Team the players have to have at least a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

ITA Scholar-Athletes have to be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year and have been enrolled at the school for at least two semesters.

In all, 720 teams and 3,908 student-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis were honored.
