No. 3 Ole Miss awaits women's tennis on Friday

OXFORD, Miss.- The Lipscomb women’s tennis team will face its toughest test of the season this weekend.

That’s because the Bisons (3-6) are slated to travel to Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels, who are currently ranked at a program-high No. 3 in the nation.

The match is set for Friday at the outdoor Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center at 2 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the match will be moved to the Ole Miss Indoor Tennis Center.

The Rebels (7-1) have rolled through their competition this season, save for a 4-2 loss to North Carolina at the National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 9.

The good news for Lipscomb is that reigning ASUN Player of the Year Viktoriya Dzyuba is fully recovered from an injury sustained last fall. In addition, freshman Kateryna Popova has compiled a 6-2 overall record in the No. 1 singles spot.

Following wins over UCLA, Texas and Baylor in recent weeks, Ole Miss went from No. 9 in the nation up to No. 3, it’s highest-ever team ranking. Arianne Hartono is 6-0 in singles play, while teammate Tea Jandric is currently 6-1. The Rebels haven’t been as strong in doubles play, but they still have a winning record at 12-8. By comparison, Lipscomb is 10-11 in doubles action.

The Bisons will head to Jonesboro to battle Arkansas State at 2 p.m. next Friday, March 2. Lipscomb will then return to Nashville the next day to host Murray State at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
