ASUN play provides clean slate for women's tennis

KENNESAW, Ga. – Following a pair of losses last week, the Lipscomb women’s tennis team will get a fresh start when ASUN play begins this weekend.

The Bisons (6-9) open their conference slate with a match at Kennesaw State on Saturday. Action is slated for 1 p.m. at the Betty Siegel Courts in suburban Atlanta.

In recent weeks, Lipscomb dropped a 6-1 contest at South Alabama on March 14, before falling to Tennessee by a score of 4-0 last Sunday in Knoxville.

Freshman Kateryna Popova brings a 10-2 singles record into ASUN play, while sophomore Denise Buberl (6-7) and junior Viktoriya Dzyuba (5-6) are also nearing the .500 mark.

The doubles team of Buberl and Dzyuba is back together after Dzyuba’s return from injury. The team is 3-1 in limited doubles action.

SCOUTING THE OWLS:

Kennesaw State struggled during the non-conference portion of its schedule. The Owls' lone victory came at Western Carolina by a score of 4-3 on Feb. 9. Kennesaw State is 0-3 at home, including losses to Southern Miss, Austin Peay and Ball State. Senior Alexandra Mercado led the Owls with a 9-11 singles record last season, while the team of Mercado and Elle sophomore Elle Baker went 5-4 in doubles action.
