Women's tennis readies for Florida road swing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – As the temperatures in Middle Tennessee cool off this weekend, the Lipscomb women’s tennis team will get a full dose of Florida sunshine.

The Bisons (7-10, 1-1 ASUN) are set to take on North Florida on Thursday at 4 p.m., before traveling to Deland for a battle with Stetson on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Lipscomb is looking to recover from a narrow, 4-3 defeat at the hands of Florida Gulf Coast at Ensworth High School last Thursday. Sophomore Denise Buberl fell to FGCU’s Laura Falceto Font by a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the deciding match.

Freshman Kateryna Popova has taken the ASUN conference by storm and brings a 12-2 overall singles record into Thursday’s action. Buberl (7-8) and reigning ASUN Player of the Year Viktoriya Dzyuba (6-7) have also seen success in singles action, while the team of Buberl and Dzyuba is 4-0 in doubles play.

North Florida brings a 13-6 record (3-0 ASUN) into Thursday’s battle. The Ospreys were picked, along with FGCU, to finish atop the conference, and the team has lived up to its billing. North Florida boasts victories over Iowa State, Middle Tennessee and Stetson, and the Ospreys are riding a 3-match winning streak. Senior Luise Intert holds a 9-3 singles record, while freshman Florencia Rossi has posted an 11-2 mark.

Stetson (10-6, 2-1 ASUN) has emerged with victories in its last two matches over USC Upstate and NJIT. Lucie Renault (11-3) and Brooke Milner (10-3) hold the team’s best singles marks, while the duo is 8-3 in doubles action. Lipscomb suffered two losses to the Hatters in 2017 – a 4-3 decision in Nashville and a 4-2 defeat at the ASUN tournament in Fort Myers, Florida.

Both matches can be tracked with the Live Stats links provided above. Updates will be posted to the team Twitter (@LipscombWTEN) and recaps will be available following the conclusion of each match.

Lipscomb returns home for a pair of matches next week. First up is a date with USC Upstate on Thursday, April 12 at 2 p.m., followed by a Senior Day match against NJIT on Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. Both matches will be held on campus at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
