Popova earns first-career ASUN Tennis Player of the Week honor

LAKEPOINT, Ga. - Lipscomb's Kateryna Popova landed her first career ASUN Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week honor, announced Wednesday by the league office.

Popova earns the award behind a 3-0 performance for the Bisons. The freshman claimed victories at the No. 2 singles spot over North Florida's Eva Nyikos (6-2, 6-3) and Stetson's Danel Ashirova (4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3)). She then teammed up with Madeleine Brooks, as the duo clinched the doubles point against the Hatters (6-4).

Popova moves to 14-2 on the season in singles play, which leads all singles players in the league.

Lipscomb closes the regular season this weekend with a pair of home matches against USC Upstate and NJIT. The Bisons and Hatters square off at Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center, before wrapping up with the Highlanders at 11 a.m. Saturday.
