Jamie Aid’s first year as head coach of the Lipscomb women’s tennis team was filled with a number of firsts for her team.

Aid joined the program in 2010 as an assistant and was named head coach prior to the start of the 2013-2014 season.

The Lady Bisons set a season program record for wins with 10. They finished with a 10-11 worksheet overall. In the spring seasons they were 7-0 in home indoor matches, also a program record.

Their 3-5 record in the Atlantic Sun earned the Lady Bisons their first trip to the conference tournament. Seeded at No. 6 they lost 4-0 to Florida Gulf Coast in the first round.

“It was a lot of hard work to make the A-Sun Tournament, but we felt all along it was a realistic goal,” Aid said. “Next year, as we set our new goals, we should want to be in the championship match.

“It was great to be in the A-Sun Tournament. But at the end of the day we ended up sixth in the conference and we want to be better than sixth.”

Laura Kent was named to the A-Sun All–Freshman Team. It was the first time a Lady Bisons tennis player had been named to the team since 2005. Kent was a unanimous selection of the conference coaches.

“We told the girls in the fall that we would be a team that writes a story of firsts for this program,” Aid said. “We told the girls we would push them hard both on and off of the court.”

Off the court the Lady Bisons also had a first for the Lipscomb athletic programs. Between their matches with Mercer and Kennesaw State they spent several days working on a mission trip working with the homeless in Atlanta.

In addition to her coaching duties Aid also serves as the Director of the Lipscomb Racquet Club located at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on campus.

She directs several camps at Lipscomb and also serves as a Junior Development Director, promoting junior tennis in the Nashville area.

Prior to joining the Lipscomb tennis program Aid held several positions at The Ensworth School in Nashville, working on the high school level in the Dean of Students office as head of academic support and as a faculty member in the fitness department.

From July 2006 through 2010 Aid served a tennis director at Ensworth. She oversaw the high school, junior varsity and middle school teams.

She served as head coach for the boys and girls teams and produced winning seasons with both teams each year as well as regular appearances in the TSSAA State Tournament. Aid’s combined overall record was 44-11.

Aid has also worked as an instructor at camps on other campuses, including the Vanderbilt Tennis Camps from 2001-2004.

Aid graduated from Lipscomb University with a B.S. degree in 2006. She transferred from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama after being sidelined with a knee injury.

She redshirted for one year and then played two seasons at Lipscomb. She was named First Team All-Conference one season. She served as captain of the Lipscomb tennis team as a junior and senior.

Aid earned numerous academic honors including the Provost List and the Dean’s List. She was a three-time All-Academic Team member. She also was named to the National Dean’s List and was a member of “Who’s Who among American College Students”.

She graduated from Brentwood Academy ('01) in Brentwood, Tennessee where she played tennis on the varsity level from the eighth grade through her senior year. She later served on the alumni board from 2006-2009 at Brentwood Academy.

Aid was a top player in state of Tennessee in Juniors as well as the southeast region.
