NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb track and field will be local this weekend when they compete in the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational. The meet begins Friday at 5 p.m. at the Vanderbilt Track and Field Complex, with the majority of the field events and all track events scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Lipscomb will be one of a host of Division I schools in one of the state’s premier collegiate outdoor meets. In addition to the Bison and host Commodores, squads from Austin Peay, Bradley, IUPUI, Miami (Ohio), Memphis, Murray State, Saint Louis and Southern Illinois will be on hand. Atlantic Sun foes Belmont and ETSU will also be in attendance.
Last season at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold, Tucker Peabody won the 200m dash and was runner-up in the 100m to lead the men’s team, while Amanda Twigg was runner-up in the women’s 800m run.
Last weekend, freshman Kendra Lobley set the school record in the 5000m run, a run that is the third-fastest in the nation entering the weekend. Earlier this week, Lobley was named Atlantic Sun Female Track Athlete of the Week for her efforts.
Next weekend, the Bison track and field teams are scheduled to split up, with a contingent set to go to the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina and others slated for the Ole Miss Invite in Oxford, Miss.
