The men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the 2008 season with two days of competition at the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track & Field Conference Championships in Clemson, S.C.

Both teams had solid performances.

The Bison women were led by Hannah Joiner, Caitlin Anderson and Carolyn Latham. Joiner was one of the big surprises in the meet.

Though she entered the women's discus competition ranked 11th of 11 with a mark of 27.94m, Joiner exploded Saturday by improving her best mark to 38.11m (125-0 feet) to finish second overall, just .47 of a meter from first. She also finished 10th in the shot put.

Anderson ran a gutsy 3000m steeplechase, finishing 3rd in 12:36.15. Latham finished sixth in the 5000m with a time of 18:22.89 to round out the scorers for the Lipscomb Women.

"It was really exciting to watch Hannah blast the discus out there Saturday," said head coach Bill Taylor. "I'm so happy that she ended the season on such a high mark.

"Caitlin's performance was also amazing. She has been very sick for more than a week and it was obvious that she was not feeling well during the steeplechase, but she showed the kind of competitiveness and toughness that our program must have to succeed."
