Two Lipscomb Lady Bisons earned All-Atlantic Sun honors at the A-Sun Track and Field Championships. Caitlin Anderson earned a third place finish in the women's 3000m steeplechase to earn and Brittany Duerk was third in the javelin.
Lipscomb's Burton Elrod had a busy first day in the A-Sun Track and Field Championships at North Florida as he participated in the decathlon.
Brittany Duerk is a sophomore post player for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons basketball team. She enjoys basketball, but she had been missing the opportunity to throw the javelin in track meets. She added the track and field team to her list of activities this spring.
Lipscomb's Brittany Duerk earned the Atlantic Sun field award as athlete of the week after recapturing the Lady Bisons' javelin record at the Vanderbilt Invitational. Duerk launched a final throw of 134-3 to recapture her school record.
The second day of the Vanderbilt Invite Saturday was highlighted by freshman Amanda Twigg's second school record in as many days. Amanda posted a time of 2:14.30 for 800m, surpassing Ruth Mick's 2006 school record of 2:15.20.
Brittany Duerk and Taylor Mason finished 1-2 in the women's javelin at the VU Invite Friday. On her last throw Taylor moved to the lead with a toss of 127-5, a new Lipscomb school record. The record lasted about 30 seconds, until Brittany launched her final throw 134-3 to recapture her school record.
Ryan Chastain broke another Lipscomb men's track record Saturday at the TSU Boston-Moon Classic, re-setting his own 1500m school record, moving it from 4:51.14 to 4:48.84, winning the race by almost eight seconds. Chastain has set at least one school record in every indoor and outdoor meet he has participated in this year.
Two members of the Lipscomb Track & Field team competed in the University of Florida Pepsi Relays, while the rest of the team competed at Austin Peay. The Bisons and Lady Bisons found success in both locations.
Ryan Chastain continued his record breaking senior season for the Bisons by breaking the Outdoor Track school record for 5,000m at the University of Alabama Relays. Sara Stephens broke her own 400m school record with a time of 57.36, while relay records in the women's 4x800, women's DMR, Men's 4x200m, and men's 4x1500m were set.
