Peabody, Smith, and Bowers claim weekly honors

MACON, Ga. – The Music City swept through the final week of Atlantic Sun Track & Field Weekly Awards before the 2011 A-Sun Outdoor Championships starting on Friday in Jacksonville. Lipscomb’s trio of Tucker Peabody, Anna Bowers and O’Neisha Smith all claimed their first weekly awards, while Belmont’s Joe Frye took home his second honor of the season.

MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Tucker Peabody, Lipscomb (Sprints – Fr. – Memphis, Tenn. – Biology)

  • First Career A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week award
  • Set a personal record in 100m dash with time of 10.69
  • Time ranks third in the A-Sun and 65th in the east region
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Anna Bowers, Lipscomb (Sprints – Jr. – Nashville, Tenn. – Government and Public Administration)

  • First Career A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week award
  • Broke school record in 100m dash in time of 12.30
  • Time ranks eighth in the A-Sun
  • Also broke school record in 4x100m (48.66) and long jump (18’6.5)

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
O’Neisha Smith, Lipscomb (Jumps – Fr. – Douglasville, Ga. – Pre-Law)

  • First Career A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week award
  • Set school record in the high jump at 5’8
  • Won the event at the Boston-Moon Classic hosted by Tennessee State University
  • Her height ranks as the top performance in the A-Sun this season
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Joe Frye, Belmont (Throws – Sr. – Roscommon, Mich. – Sports Administration)

  • Second Career A-Sun Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award
  • Toss of 59.98m broke the Belmont hammer throw record
  • Won the hammer throw and shot put at the Boston-Moon Classic
  • Owns best performance in A-Sun in hammer throw and discus
  • Ranks 43rd in the nation and 20th in east region in hammer throw
