Tuesday, June 21, 2011The Lady Bisons will add thirteen freshmen women to the Cross Country and Track & Field teams from ten different states and one Canadian province for the 2011-12 school year. The class is composed of nine distance runners, one thrower, two sprinters and one vaulter.
“We are really happy with this year’s women’s recruiting class,” Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor said. “We add talent and depth to our women’s distance program, while increasing our ability to succeed as a full track & field program with stronger sprints and throws.
“Just as important as the athletic talent we have coming in, these girls fit our program culture and philosophy. They are wonderful people!”
Maggie Lawrence (Sinking Spring, PA) Wilson High School
PR’s: 10:49 3200m, 5:05 1600m, 18:50 5000m
Maggie holds school records for 1600m, 3200m and indoor mile at Wilson High School. She was selected to the PTFCA All-State XC team in 2010, finished 9th in the mile at the New Balance Indoor Nationals, and 8th in the 3200m at the PIAA State Championships. Maggie won the 2010 Spiked Shoe Invitational and medaled at the Foot Locker Regional meet in 2009.
She graduated with a 4.0 GPA and will major in Biochemistry at Lipscomb.Maggie’s parents are Michael and Laurie Lawrence. Her father was a collegiate swimmer. Her High School coach is Doug Myer.
Kaitlyn Llewellyn (Perrysburg, OH) Perrysburg High School
PR’s: 4:59 1600m, 2:18 800m, 11:20 3200m, 18:20 5000m
Kaitlyn holds school records for 1600m, 3200m, 4x800m and 5000m. She was a team captain for both xc and track. She has been League and District Champion in track three times and earned All-Ohio honors in 2008 and 2009.
Kaitlyn is a member of the national honor society and earned High Honors all four years of high school. She will major in Pre-Medicine at Lipscomb. Kaitlyn’s parents are Jon and Kara Llewellyn. Her dad was a three time Big Ten Conference Heavyweight Wrestling Champion, and won the NCAA DI Championship in the heavyweight division in 1991. Her high school coaches are Coach Ricard and Coach Monheim.
Minna Fields (Stanwood, WA) Stanwood High School
PR’s: 18:11 5000m, 11:01 3200m, 5:04 1600m, 2:22 800m
Minna is the school record holder for 5000m. She was first team all-state in 2009 and 2010 with 2nd and 4th place finishes. She was voted “most improved” three times during her high school career, was a team captain, and was selected to the Nike All-Bowerman team. Minna has also been selected to compete in the Nike Border Clash twice.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in Sport Medicine or Nursing at Lipscomb. Minna’s parents are Gene and Julie Fields. Her high school coach is Jordan Sneva.
Kellie Foley (Prineville, OR) Crook County High School
PR’s: 10:17 3000m, 4:42 1500m, 18:24 5000m, 2:24 800m
She is the school record holder for 1500m and 5000m. Kellie was 5A Oregon State Cross Country Champion in 2008 and finished 3rd at the Nike Border Clash that same year.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in Pre-Medicine at Lipscomb. Kellie’s parents are John and Magali Foley. Her sister Michelly competed in XC and Track at Washington State University and her sister Leslie is a collegiate swimmer for the University of Nevada. She and her sisters went 1-2-3 at the 5A District XC meet in 2007. Kellie’s high school coach is Tracy Smith.
Kendra Lobley (Poland, ME) Poland High School
PR’s: 5:03 1600m, 11:25 3200m, 2:21 800m, 19:48 5000m
She is the school record holder for 800m, 1600m, 3200m and 5000m. Kendra is the 2010 Maine indoor state champion and the 2010 and 2011 outdoor state champion in the 800m. Five time qualifier for New Englands. She was named 2011 Sun Journal Athlete of the Year.
Kendra has a 3.8 GPA and plans to major in Bio-Chemistry at Lipscomb. Kendra’s parents are Rick and Carla Lobley. Her high school coaches are Sean Galipeau, Kristin Ross and Mark Soehren.
Megan McClain (Fallbrook, CA) Great Oak High School
PR’s: 58.09 400m, 2:14 800m, 5:24 1600m, 18:31 3mile
She is the school record holder for 400m, 800m and 4x400. She is a member of the 2010 CIF Southern Section and California State Championship Cross Country teams. Megan has won the conference 800m championship twice and has competed at Nike Cross Nationals.
She plans to major in Electrical Engineering at Lipscomb. Megan’s parents are Dan McClain and Lori McClain. Her high school coach is Doug Soles.
Renee Menzie (Columbia City, IN) Columbia City High School
PR’s: 11:16 3200m, 5:25 1600m, 18:53 5000m
She is the school record holder for 3200m and 4x800m. She was 2010 XC team captain, earned All-State XC honors in 2009 and 2010, and was named MVP her freshman, sophomore and junior years. In 2011 she qualified for the Indiana state championships in the 3200m. She has also been named to the All-State Academic team.
Renee carries a 4.0 GPA and plans to major in Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Lipscomb. Renee’s parents are Russell Menzie and Carolyn Menzie. Her high school coach is Bob Fahl.
Melissa Matis (Lethbridge, AB Canada) Chinook High School
PR’s: 10:36 3000m, 4:56 1500m, 14:59 4000m
She is a five year letterman in track and was MVP of her team in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She took gold at the Southern Alberta zones XC Championships the last four years. She also finished second at the Canadian Legion Youth Athletic Championships and at the Cross Country Provincials.
Melissa is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at Lipscomb. Melissa’s parents are Dennis and Sylvia Matis. Her high school coach is Jen Scott.
Lana Hojeij (Tyrone, GA) Landmark Christian High School
PR’s: 5:29 1600m, 12:13 3200m, 19:21 5000m
Although Lana didn’t start competing in Cross Country until her junior year, she placed 18th at the Georgia state championships that year, and moved up to 6th place in the state her senior year.
Lana plans to major in either Pre-Medicine or Business/Marketing at Lipscomb. Lana’s parents are Wassim and Carol Hojeij. Her high school coach is Joan McNeil.
Brenna Thompson (Shelton, WA) Shelton High School
PR’s: 57.47 400m, 25.85 200m
Brenna is a four-year letterman in track and has qualified for the Washington state championships all four years at 400m. She was captain of her track and volleyball teams as a senior. She was also named track team MVP in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
She carries a 4.0 GPA and was ranked #1 in her class. Brenna intends to major in Pre-Pharmacy at Lipscomb. Brenna’s parents are Dwayne and Penny Thompson. Her high school coach is Doug Sells.
April Terry (Little Rock, AR) Central Arkansas Christian School
PR’s: 39-10 SP
April is the school record holder for the shot put. She was the Arkansas state runner-up in the shot put in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, FBLA , Key Club, Spanish club and student council. She carries a 3.84 GPA and plans to major in Psychology at Lipscomb. April’s parents are James and Nichelle Terry. Her high school coach is Danny Sullivan.
Valerie Bristol (Henderson, TN) Station Camp High School
PR’s: 16-11 LJ, 32-0 TJ, 60.8 400m, 27.9 200m
Valerie was the 2011 district champion in the long jump. She has competed in the long jump at the Tennessee state championships in both 2010 and 2011, and in the 4x400m Relay in 2010.
Valerie is undecided on her major at Lipscomb. Valerie’s parents are Mark and Maria Bristol.
Abigail Dodson (Franklin, TN) Page High School
Pr’s: 9-0 PV
Abigail took second place at the 2011 Tennessee state championships in the pole vault.
She carries a 4.0 GPA and graduated from high school a year early. She is a National Honor Society member who plans to major in Spanish at Lipscomb. Abigail’s parents are Marty and Becky Dodson. Both of her parents attended Lipscomb University.
