Lobley earns back-to-back weekly awards

MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb freshman Kendra Lobley was named Atlantic Sun Female Runner of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Lobley received her second weekly award in a row, and in doing so became the first Lipscomb athlete to ever win awards in back-to-back weeks. It’s the first time the Lipscomb program has ever won awards in back-to-back weeks as well.

Lobley broke the school 3000m run record at last week’s Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invite, earning a runner-up finish. She lowered the previous school-record by nearly 27 seconds.

It’s the third school record Lobley has broken during the 2012 outdoor season. Two weeks ago at the Rhodes Open, she won the 5000m run by nearly 23 seconds with a 16:49.56s run. The week before that at the Birmingham Southern Invitational, she was runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase with an 11:07.63s mark to earn that record as well.

Head coach Bill Taylor is pleased with Lobley’s development.

“Kendra continues to set the tone for our women’s distance squad in competition,” Taylor said. “She is a fearless racer and has terrific instincts. I’m happy she’s being recognized again; her performance in the 3000m race Saturday certainly deserved it.”

Lipscomb is back in action this weekend. The squads will be split, with some distance runners traveling to North Carolina State for the Raleigh Relays and the remaining competitors going to Oxford, Miss. for the Ole Miss Invite.
