The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2011-12 Academic All-District Track and Field/Cross Country honorees, Thursday. Lipscomb’s Ashley Lehman was named to the District III team.
Lehman was an All-Conference performer in track and cross country in the Atlantic Sun. Her sixth-place finish at last fall’s cross country championships helped lead the Lady Bisons to the program’s first-ever conference championship.
In the spring, Lehman returned to the track and was instrumental in the Lady Bisons success. She capped off her career by claiming silver in the 10,000m run at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships with a school-record 36:09.71s run.
Carrying a 3.97 GPA in Elementary Education, Lehman was one of two Lady Bisons to be named Academic All-Conference for cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field.
Lehman is the first Lady Bisons track and field athlete to earn a CoSIDA award since Carolyn Latham in 2008. Ryan Chastain in 2010 was the last men’s athlete to be named to the team.
“Ashley has been a stellar student-athlete during her four years in our program,” said Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor. “She has always achieved excellence in the classroom, developed into one of our top distance women athletically, and led our Discipleship and Outreach Commission which coordinates service projects, mission trips, devotions and such. This is another great honor for her and well deserved."
