Two T&F school records fall on busy day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With a full day of action, the Lipscomb track and field teams were once again split between the Hoosiers Hills Invite in Bloomington, Ind., and at the Samford Invite in Birmingham, Ala.

With runners competing in three invitational events at the Indiana Hoosiers Hills Invite, the Lady Bisons made it count setting two school records in impressive fashion.

Dani Walker set the school record in the invitational one mile run. The invitational pits the best runners present at the meet. Walker’s time of 4:45.33 bested second place Brianna Johnson of Indiana by more than 13 seconds.

“Dani has been amazing,” Bill Taylor, director of cross country and track and field, said. “She went out and pulled away leading wire-to-wire. It is even more impressive after running a 4:46 split in the mile last night in the distance medley relay.”

Maggie Lawrence also set a school record in the 3000m Invitational as she clocked in at 9:57.88. Teammate Minna Fields finished just behind in a time of 10:08.49.

“Another school record goes down,” Taylor said. “It is the best track race I have seen for Maggie. Minna ran terrific as well.”

Brenna Thompson ran a season-best 57.98 in the 400m dash invitational and has likely moved herself into the top-heat at the upcoming A-Sun conference meet with the time.

Down south at the Samford Invite, Jared Wingerter set a personal-record and won his heat in the 5000m run. His time of 15:19.81 placed him seventh overall in the 26-man field.

Jalen Thompson set a personal-best in the long jump with a leap of 6.55 meters while also winning his heat of the 200m dash in a time of 22.61 seconds. Tucker Peabody timed in at 21.86 seconds in the top-heat at the invite in the first lane.

Grant Stromberg timed in at 8:46.07 in the 3000m run, winning his heat for the Bisons.

After completing the two-day invites, Lipscomb now prepares for the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event gets started on Feb. 22 and takes place in Johnson City, Tenn.
