MACON, Ga. - Lipscomb's Sally Larson and April Terry guided the Bisons to a sweep of the Atlantic Sun Women's Indoor Track & Field weekly awards, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Larson, from Falls City, Wash., placed second in the mile run with a time of 5:05.1 in her first-ever indoor competition at the Emory Crossplex Invitational. That effort helped the Bisons to a first-place finish and top A-Sun time in the distance medley relay with a mile leg split of 5:01.
The Lipscomb distance medley relay team ranks first in the A-Sun at 12:16.58.
It is the first career indoor track and field weekly award for Larson.
"Sally had a great opener,” Taylor said. “She really picked up where she left off in cross country.
“I really didn't expect those times from her, since we haven't done any real quality workouts. So the times are really encouraging for her and her distance teammates. I can't wait to see how Sally and her distance teammates do once we get into the heart of our training this season.”
Terry set the program record in the weight throw (16.84 meters) as she claimed first place in the event and added a third-place performance in the shot put (12.94 meters).
She ranks second in the A-Sun in the weight throw. She is fourth in the A-Sun in the shot put.
It is the third career indoor field award for Terry, who is from Little Rock, Ark.
"It seems like April sets at least one school record at every meet, and has since she arrived,” Taylor said. “I think that is the ultimate quest of athletics, to continually get better at what you do.
“She keeps pushing herself farther and farther. She is nowhere close to reaching her limits yet.”
