NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb track and field squad will finish out the regular season at the Georgia Invitational Saturday.
"Our focus this weekend is really to tune-up for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships,” said Bill Taylor, director of track and field. “Most of our athletes are doing less than normal.
“A few are trying to improve on marks, while many are running under or over distance to prepare for A-Sun.”
After several weeks of fatigue, the team is slowly regaining the momentum displayed earlier in the outdoor season.
“Our expectations are that each of our athletes competes hard and shows they are ready to get after it at conference,” Taylor said.
Kaitlyn Llewellyn will look to retain her speed and accuracy in the 3000-meter steeplechase after finishing first at the Tennessee Challenge with a time of 11:10.62 this past weekend.
Freshmen Sally Larson and Phillip Smith used the Tennessee Challenge to record personal records. Larson posted her personal best in the 3000 meters while Smith posted his in the triple jump.
In the midst of trying to improve numbers and performances before conference, the only obstacle standing in the way for the team is the weather.
“The weather forecast calls for rain and some thunder storms, so I am hoping we get the meet in," Taylor said.
The meet begins with field events at 9 a.m. and running events at 12:15 p.m.
