MACON, Georgia – Three Lipscomb women’s track and field athletes have been named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team, announced Wednesday.
"We have a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence,” said Bill Taylor, director of track and field.”
Juniors April Terry and Kaitlyn Llewellyn along with senior Tessa Hoefle were named to the team after achieving great results not only on the track, but also in the classroom.
Terry is an interdisciplinary teaching major with a GPA of 3.85.
A unanimous choice, Llewellyn is an exercise science major and has maintained a perfect GPA of 4.00.
Hoefle too holds a perfect 4.00 with her major in English.
Coming off the A-Sun Outdoor Championships this past weekend, Llewellyn finished sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:09.73 while Hoefle finished seventh crossing the line in 11:15.05.
Terry picked up a pair of third-place finishes at the championships in the shot put (13.10 meters) and the hammer throw (50.29 meters).
No stranger to balancing track and academics, Hoefle has been the cross country Scholar Athlete of the Year the last three years, making her the only athlete to achieve the feat since its inception in 2011.
This year marks the third year for Hoefle as a member of the Academic All-Conference Team, while Terry and Llewellyn enjoy the accolade for the second year.
Taylor said, “They all continue to raise the bar for Lipscomb Track and Lipscomb Athletics.”
