MACON, Ga. – Madi Talbert has been named the Most Outstanding Track Performer for the Atlantic Sun Championships as announced on Tuesday by the league office.
Talbert won both the 3000m steeplechase and the 5000m at the Championships with blazing times of 10:00.01 and 16:37.40, respectively.
She has now won the 3000m steeplechase three years in a row, and the 5000m in back-to-back years.
The junior qualified for the NCAA Division I East Region Prelims in both events. It was her first time qualifying for the 5000m, and the third time she has qualified for the 3000m steeplechase. She ranks seventh in the region in the steeplechase and 30th in the 5000m.
"Madi has developed into an extraordinary athlete,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “Winning the 3000m Steeplechase and the 5000m at conference is a very hard double. Winning that double two years in a row is amazing. She has broken the A-Sun record each year too. I'm very proud of her and the team.”
Her performance in the 3000m steeplechase during the past two East Region Prelims earned her a spot in the National Championships, where she earned Second Team All-American status as a sophomore and honorable mention status as a freshman.
Talbert shared the award with Jacksonville’s Shanique Walker, a senior who finished first or second in all six events she competed in at the A-Sun Championships.
The Charlotte, N.C. native will be back in action at the East Region Prelims on May 28-30.
